About the role

Black & White Engineering (B&W) is a leading MEP design consultancy. Launched in the UAE in 2007, we became an independent company in 2014 and are now a true global consultancy with offices in Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia.

Due to our continued growth, we are looking to recruit a Sustainability Consultant to support the wider multi-disciplinary design team in achieving sustainable design solutions.

Reporting to the Newcastle-based senior management, this role will be responsible for delivering and assessing a wide range of BREEAM projects to achieve positive design outcomes, whilst providing sound technical and design support.

We’re looking for a professional with experience in sustainability assessments and thermal modelling to highlight sustainability opportunities, preparing assessment reports and ensuring project requirements and clients’ specifications are fully met.

Responsibilities
  • Undertaking and conducting BREEAM assessments and providing design advice
  • Managing projects, preparing updates, assessment reports, planning reports for clients, and submissions to certifying bodies
  • Carrying out feasibility studies; comparing and contracting a range of design solutions considering costs, savings, and benefits
  • Supporting a multi-disciplinary design team to ensure successful preparation and delivery of project objectives, including providing technical support
  • Compiling and assessing documentation to determine and support compliance, planning applications, producing sustainability/energy statements and as-built energy performance certificates
  • Liaising with the client and external design team as necessary for the successful delivery of projects
  • Providing advice to colleagues, clients, and external design team in achieving certification and to sustainability rating tools and standards such as BREEAM, WELL, and LEED
  • Supporting wider MEP design teams on sustainability and on the building physics aspects of projects
  • Ensuring all assigned work is carried out in compliance within agreed budget and schedule
  • Team-building and supporting the team through training and mentoring
  • Ensuring and addressing own training and development requirements, keeping up to date technical developments, national and international standards and legislative requirements
Qualifications
  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification, or at least 2 years of industry experience in BREEAM
  • Demonstrable experience in BREEAM to achieve positive design outcomes
  • The ability to manage projects and communicate effectively with both clients and internal colleagues
  • Experience in providing support for sustainability rating tools such as BREEAM, LEED, and WELL
  • Technical knowledge in primary disciple and an understanding of Building Services Engineering and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process
  • Demonstrates analytical, creative, and conceptual thinking
  • An appreciation of complementary specialisms such as acoustics, fire engineering, computer modelling, and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process
  • Results-oriented individual with strong problem-solving, technical realisation, and coordination skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
  • Computer literacy which includes AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
  • Responsible for advancing technical skills and developing self and career

Desirable skills

  • Experience using IESVE software
  • Accredited LCC and/or LCEA assessor
  • Accredited BREEAM assessor
  • BREEAM AP LEED experience
